End of the Trail
A Story Rediscovered
Found in a closet.
Restored in memory. Preserved in legacy.
Some discoveries change everything. On May 1, 2026, while clearing out a hall closet filled with vintage Beacon rennants I had collected since 1991, I found a hidden sculpture that would
become one of the most meaningful pieces in my life and the inspiration behind the Waynelle Collection.
THE DISCOVERY
After caring for my husband Wayne for five years, and losing him on January 14, 2026, I wasn't sure what to do with my time.
I began volunteering at a local Senior Center once a week. Then I started thinking about my inventory, the vintage Beacon Blankets, and the woven fleece textiles I had collected.
As I cleaned out my closet, buried under bags of cuttings, I saw something- a horse's nose.
I crawled in on my hands and knees and pulled out what revealed itself to be a "End of the Trail" sculpture. The Indian was bent over, his horse's head hanging low, and his spear in hand.
My husband had often asked, "Have you found the Indian on the horse yet?" It's very valuable." I had thought he meant the hand paintings above our fireplace. But this is what he meant.
A PERSONAL CONNECTION
My husband loved anything that had to do with the Western and Native American culture. He had a deep respect and fascination. He watched Dances With Wolves five times and collected many books and movies about the West.
These past few years of caring for Wayne were filled with love, tears, and strength. In his final months, he would ask, "Am I ever going to get better? Will I feel strong again?" I would hold him and comfort him, though we both knew.
When I saw this sculpture, I saw him.
Worn out. Holding on.
The Indian and his horse looked so sad, so defeated.
It was a weeping day, but also a day of understanding. I told Wayne,
"I found your Indian on his horse."
Our paths crossed in 1998 for a reason.
THE THREADS OF MY WORK
This sculpture is more than a piece of art-it's a reminder of love, resilience, and the stories that live within us. It continues to inspire the Waynelle Collection and the vision behind Adore Designs.
Some pieces aren't just found...
they find you.
